Run, dodge and jump down an endless forest trail.
Forest Runner is a 3D endless runner. You guide a fox down a three-lane forest trail that never ends, switching lanes, jumping logs and golden rings, rolling under low branches, crossing rivers and gliding over gorges while the pace keeps building and the forest turns from midday to autumn, dusk, snow and dawn. Every stretch of trail leaves at least one way through.

Why you will love it
Learn Forest Runner in a minute
Forest Runner is a 3D endless runner. You are a fox running down a forest trail with three lanes, and the trail never ends: dodge what is in your way, grab the coins, and see how far you get.
Game rules
What is on the trail, what scores, and what ends a run.
- Logs: lie across a lane. Jump over them.
- Low branches: hang across a lane at head height. Roll under them; jumping into one ends the run.
- Rolling logs: roll down your lane toward you. Jump them a little earlier than a log lying still.
- Boulders and deer: are too tall to jump. A deer trots in from the forest and stands its ground in its lane, so switch lanes.
- Timber wagons: fill a lane for a stretch. Some stand still, some roll toward you with their lanterns lit, and some have a ramp or a big red mushroom in front. Run up the ramp, or onto the mushroom to bounce up, and travel along the roof.
- Rivers: cross the whole trail. Take the log bridge, or jump the water; running or rolling into it ends the run.
- Gorges: now and then the trail reaches a cliff edge. The fox catches a big leaf and glides across. You cannot jump or roll in the air, but you can steer between lanes to collect the coins.
- Golden rings: float over the trail at the height of a jump, some of them right over a log. Jump through a ring for 10 points. Each ring in an unbroken run of rings is worth 10 more than the last, up to 50 a ring; a ring you run past ends the run of rings, but never the run itself.
- Scoring: one point for every metre you run, five for every coin, and more for every golden ring. Each pace keeps its own best score on your device.
- Fox shop: every coin you pick up is banked when the run ends. Spend them in the fox shop, on the start card, on new coats for your fox: arctic, autumn, shadow, desert and golden. A coat only changes how your fox looks, never how it runs.
- Pace: pick relaxed, normal or fast before a run. Every pace gets steadily faster and busier the further you go, and the trail always leaves the same time to react, whatever the speed.
- Stumbles: clip the side of something while switching lanes and you stumble back to your lane. A second stumble within six seconds ends the run.
- Game over: running straight into anything you have not jumped or rolled past ends the run.
- Pausing and saving: the run pauses when you switch away, and a run in progress is saved on your device. When you resume, a 3, 2, 1 count gives you time to get ready.
Power-ups
Every few hundred metres a spinning token floats over the trail. Run through it to pick it up. A chip in the corner of the view shows what you have, with a timer for the ones that run out.
- Coin magnet (red): draws in the coins ahead of you, in every lane, even the ones on wagon roofs.
- Jump boost (green): your jumps go more than twice as high, high enough to clear boulders and land on wagon roofs. They also sail over golden rings, unless you jump just before one.
- Double score (purple): every metre, coin and ring counts twice for ten seconds.
- Acorn shield (brown): a glowing bubble that takes your next crash and smashes whatever you hit. It lasts until it saves you.
- Golden sprint (gold): for five seconds you run faster, smash through everything in your way, run across rivers and pull in coins from every lane.
The coin magnet and the jump boost last ten seconds. Just after the shield saves you, or a sprint ends, you pass through anything for a moment, so you are never thrown straight into trouble.
The changing forest
Every 1,000 metres the trail runs into a new part of the forest, and its name shows briefly at the top of the view.
- Midday woods: where every run starts, in warm sunshine.
- Autumn woods: orange and red leaves, with more falling around you.
- Dusk: a low pink sun, with fireflies blinking beside the trail.
- Snowy pines: snow on the trees and the trail, and snow falling.
- Dawn: a soft pink morning, then back to midday for the next lap.
Only the look changes. The trail plays the same in every part of the forest.
Tips & strategies
A few habits that keep a run going as the pace picks up.
- Look further ahead: watch the trail in the distance, not just under the fox. Every stretch of trail always leaves at least one way through.
- Switch early: change lanes as soon as you see a boulder or a wagon, rather than at the last moment.
- Watch for lanterns: a wagon with lit lanterns is rolling toward you, so it arrives sooner than it looks.
- Take the high road: wagon roofs are often covered in coins and clear of everything else. Follow the coins up from a mushroom to land on one.
- Save the shield: it never runs out, so keep it for the stretch where you need it most.
- Time the rings: jump about a quarter of a second before a ring, as you would for a log, and you go through it at the top of the jump.
- Steer the glide: over a gorge, follow the coin trail as it weaves between lanes.
- Drop fast: swipe down in mid air to come straight down and roll, which gets you under a branch right after a jump.
- Chain your moves: one continuous swipe can switch lanes and then jump without lifting your finger.
Frequently asked questions
Quick answers to the things players ask about Forest Runner.
Is Forest Runner free?
Yes. It is free to play in your browser, with no ads, no download and no account.
Is every run beatable?
Every stretch of trail leaves at least one lane you can pass by running, jumping or rolling, with enough room to reach it at the speed you are going. Every river has a log bridge on that lane. The trail just keeps getting faster and busier, so every run ends sooner or later.
Can I change the speed?
Yes. Before a run, pick relaxed, normal or fast on the start card. Your choice is remembered, and each pace keeps its own best score.
How do I play on a phone?
Swipe anywhere on the game, including the space below the view, so your thumb never hides the trail. A move happens as soon as your finger has travelled far enough, without waiting for you to lift it.
Can I pause?
Yes. Tap the pause button, or press P or Escape. The game also pauses by itself when you switch tabs or scroll down to read. From the pause menu you can resume, restart the run, or turn the sound effects or the music off.
Where are my coins and foxes kept?
On your device, in this browser, like your best scores. There is no account, so they do not follow you to another device or browser, and clearing this site's data or playing in a private window starts you from scratch.
What do I need to play?
Any recent browser on a phone, tablet or computer. The game is drawn in 3D with WebGL, which all current browsers support.
